Privacy Policy
Last updated 26 October 2026
Welcome to The Video Effect (www.thevideoeffect.tv). I provide video training workshops, tutorials, tips and resources for teams and anyone learning video. Protecting your privacy is important to me.
This Privacy Policy explains how I collect, use, share and protect your personal information. It complies with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR, as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025), the Data Protection Act 2018, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR, as amended), and other UK data protection laws.
The data controller is Nigel Camp, trading as The Video Effect, based in London, UK. You can contact me at nigel@nigelcamp.com.
1. Personal data I collect
- Contact data. Your name, email address, organisation (optional) and message when you use the contact form or email me, and anything you choose to share when booking a workshop.
- Technical and usage data. IP address, browser type and version, device information and pages visited, collected automatically by my hosting and analytics in aggregate form.
I do not collect data from third parties unless stated. I do not process special category data (for example health or ethnicity) or knowingly collect data from children under 16.
2. How I use your data and lawful bases
I use data to do three things.
- reply to enquiries and deliver workshops and services you request;
- comply with legal obligations (for example tax and fraud prevention);
- keep the site secure, fix issues and understand which pages are useful.
These are the lawful bases under UK GDPR.
- Contract. Necessary for services you request.
- Legal obligation. Required by law.
- Legitimate interests. Replying to your enquiry, site security and improving the site.
- Consent. For any optional marketing emails (withdrawable at any time). I do not currently send newsletters.
No automated decision-making or profiling with significant effects.
3. Data retention
I keep data only as long as needed.
- Enquiries and correspondence are kept as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any workshop that follows.
- Order and contract data are kept for up to 6 years (tax and legal).
- Technical and usage data are usually kept for 12 months.
Then it is securely deleted or anonymised.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
This site does not set advertising or tracking cookies, so there is no cookie banner.
- Analytics. I use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which measures visits in aggregate without cookies and without tracking you across sites.
- Spam protection. The contact form may use Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a person, not a bot, is sending it.
- Embedded videos. Some guides embed videos from YouTube, in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), and from Vimeo, with Vimeo's do-not-track setting. Either service may set its own cookies if you play a video.
5. Sharing your data
I share data only when necessary.
- With processors that run the site and deliver your messages, which are Cloudflare (hosting, analytics, spam protection and the contact form) and the email service that delivers contact form messages to my inbox. There is no newsletter, and workshops are invoiced directly.
- Professional advisors (for example accountants).
- Authorities if legally required.
Third parties must protect data according to my instructions and UK law. I never sell your data or share it for others' marketing.
6. International transfers
If data goes outside the UK (for example to US or EU providers), I use safeguards such as UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement to keep it equally protected.
7. Data security
I use encryption, access controls and regular reviews to protect against unauthorised access, loss or breaches.
8. Your rights
You have the following rights.
- access your data;
- correct inaccuracies;
- have your data erased (in some cases);
- restrict processing;
- data portability (a structured format);
- object to processing based on legitimate interests or marketing;
- withdraw consent.
Email nigel@nigelcamp.com to exercise your rights. I respond within one month (extendable in some cases). It is usually free; a fee is possible for excessive requests.
9. Complaints
Contact nigel@nigelcamp.com first. I acknowledge within 5 working days and respond within one month. If you are unhappy with the response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
10. Changes to this policy
I may update this policy. Significant changes will be posted here. Changes take effect when posted.
11. Other sites
