Workshops

Video production workshops for in-house teams

Three hands-on video production workshops for marketing, comms and charity teams, at your office or online. Bring your phones. In one session your team films, lights, records and edits a proper piece of video, with me looking over their shoulders. You go home with something you've made, and a routine you can repeat the next day.

Workshops are arranged around you, as a team day at your office anywhere in the UK, one-to-one, or live online. Team days start at £1,395 + VAT for up to six people. There are no fixed public dates at the moment, so tell me what you need and I'll come back with dates and a quote.

Is this workshop right for you?

Yes, if you make, or need to make, video for work or for your own channel; you've got a phone; and you want it to look and sound professional without hiring anyone.

Probably not, if you want a film school or a degree (SAE or a college course will suit you better), or you're booking for children (try a youth programme such as Roundhouse or Young Film Academy).

Three workshops, all bespoke

Each one is shaped around the people taking it and the videos you need to make. Pick the starting point that sounds like you.

How pricing works

A team day at your office starts at £1,395 + VAT for up to six people, and a full-day live online session for up to six people starts at £1,200 + VAT. Longer courses and one-to-one sessions are quoted. The final price depends on how many people, where, and how long. Tell me those three things and I'll send a short plan and a fixed price within two working days, with no obligation. A 50% deposit confirms the date. If you'd like me to book a room in London, the hire cost is added at cost. Full workshop terms.

Who teaches them

Me, Nigel Camp. I've filmed for a living since I set up DevilBoy Productions in 2011, and I wrote The Video Effect. I've taught digital film for more than ten years. At General Assembly in London, for close to ten years, my classes included Creating Video Content on a Budget and Mobile Video: Produce Content Like a Pro, the starting points for these workshops, and for Cambridge University Press I trained the presenters of their Learn English YouTube channel. There are no slides to sit through. Every exercise comes from a real job, and you spend most of the day filming.

Clients I've filmed for include ICE (the owner of the New York Stock Exchange), CBRE, Freshworks, the British Council, Kew Royal Botanic Gardens, Intrepid Travel and VSO. Every exercise in these workshops comes from jobs like those.

What you take home

  • A finished, edited video you shot yourself, exported in vertical (9:16) and landscape (16:9).
  • My one-page phone video setup checklist, and a shot-list template.
  • A kit list matched to your budget, with UK prices.

Before you book

Is it suitable for complete beginners?

Yes. Most people arrive having only filmed on autopilot. You don't need any jargon, and you'll be filming within the first half hour.

Do I need any equipment?

Just your phone. Any reasonably recent smartphone is fine. I bring mics and lights to try, and you leave knowing which, if any, are worth buying.

Can you come to our office?

Yes. All three workshops run at your office, anywhere in the UK, or online.

More practical questions about booking, invoices and access are answered on the FAQ page.

If you mainly want to make a short film, a college course such as City Lit's may suit you better. These workshops are for people making video for work, or about to.
